I am happy to say that I will be attending Phoenix Fan Fest from December 4-7 this year. Earlier, I stated that I would not be able to make it this year, circumstances and what not. It seems things have fallen into place and I will be there.
If you live in the Phoenix area, or are planning to attend Fan Fest, make sure to come by and see my creations. Unfortunately, pictures can’t do them justice. This is also an opportunity to pick up a few presents for this year, or get a commission started for next year.
I will say a few things about the event here, which shall hopefully be helpful. I attended the first Fan Fest last year. It was the first big show I had ever done and was a great testing ground for me. Many lessons were learned. The show is small. When I say that, I mean in comparison to Phoenix Comicon. There are a large number of vendors and guests to enjoy.
There are two things that make this show worthwhile, in my opinion. The stadium it is held in is a bit cold. Not freezing cold, but it is much warmer outside. Why would this be a plus? If you have worn a costume that has the slightest amount of layers or lack of ventilation, you understand. Costume play (cosplay) is very comfortable for this reason. The second is that it is still a relatively small show. Again, small in relation to a big con. If you are getting tired of the large crowds, and all that brings with it, this show is definitely for you. It makes things much more personal. Long lines, crowded aisles, bad manners and general annoyance are greatly reduced. It will likely grow in attendance each year, like most cons, so get in before it becomes a mad house.
I am looking forward to seeing people I met last year, as well as meeting more people this year. Come out and support a nice friendly event and pick up this years hand-made, custom and unique ornaments.
